Going to the laundromat can be a daunting task, especially if you have a lot of laundry to do. But with some planning and preparation, you can make it a smooth and stress-free experience. Here are some tips on how to best get ready for the laundromat.
First, start your laundry at home. This will save you time and money at the laundromat. Pretreat any stains on your clothes before you leave. Put your delicate items in laundry nets to protect them from damage. Sort your laundry by color, fabric, and temperature to avoid mixing them up. Pack all your laundry into as few totes as possible to make it easier to carry.
Second, take your own supplies. Don’t lug around whole bottles and boxes of detergent, softener, and bleach. Instead, repurpose disposable water bottles to carry liquid products or use dressing sauce cups to portion them out. Use locking plastic bags to repackage dry detergent or carry pods. Use a caddy or a tote bag to keep your supplies organized and place them in your basket or tote with the laundry.
Third, take your own entertainment. You might have to wait for a while at the laundromat, so bring something to keep yourself occupied. Make sure your phone is charged or bring a power bank. Take a book, magazine, or newspaper to read. If you are bringing children, bring books or a device with games or content for them. When bringing small kids, bring entertainment that helps them stay seated - the laundromat is not the place for toys. Better yet, arrange to have someone watch them while you do the laundry.
Fourth, bring quarters, bills, or a credit/debit card. Most laundromats accept coins, cash, or a credit-debit card for payment, but it’s better to be prepared for any situation. Stop by the bank to get a roll of quarters prior to the trip or sort your change at home and separate out the quarters. Bring a change purse just of and for quarters only so you don’t have to dig them out and you can add more from the bill breaking machine if needed.
Fifth, dress appropriately. Wear something comfortable and practical for doing laundry. Carry a bag you can easily keep on you like a mini backpack or fanny pack for your personal belongings. Wear something with pockets for your phone, wallet, and loose change.
By following these tips, you can make your laundromat trip more comfortable and efficient. Happy washing!
